These Challenges Impede the Use of Gen-AI

The majority of manufacturers, however, face major hurdles in implementing AI projects. The situation looks like this:

  • 92 percent of manufacturers believe that legacy technologies hinder important projects in terms of infrastructure. But only half of them have conducted a comprehensive infrastructure assessment;

  • 94 percent expect that edge and IoT data will significantly improve the results of AI models when it comes to the combination of technologies. However, a majority sees significant challenges in implementation;

  • 47 percent see themselves as well positioned when it comes to ethics and responsibility;

  • About 66 percent believe that their employees lack the necessary know-how to effectively use AI systems;

  • Only 41 percent believe they have enough storage and processing capacity to meet AI requirements.

According to NTT Data, the most successful manufacturing companies have already integrated Gen-AI into their core processes. Europe also fares well in this regard. Those who fail to strategically plan and implement the use of Gen-AI now risk setting the course for their own failure.
