The first signs of economic recovery are shimmering on the horizon, despite challenging economic prospects, thanks to global demand and innovative technologies. This is reported by the industry association VdW. Although domestic demand remains moderate, foreign business is said to be picking up. Dr. Markus Heering, Managing Director of VdW, sees a stable recovery only by 2026. The current uncertainty caused by trade conflicts is still dampening willingness to invest. Nevertheless, Heering is confident that decisive impulses and innovations at EMO 2025 will strengthen the competitiveness of companies.
Sustainability Takes Center Stage
Sustainability is increasingly coming into focus in manufacturing. Technological advancements are key levers for more efficient resource management. Digitalization, for example, enhances the efficiency of machine capacities, thereby minimizing resource consumption and emissions, as Professor Dr. Christian Brecher from the Fraunhofer Institute IPT highlights. Promoting the circular economy is also crucial, as better resource tracking reduces the need for energy and materials. Last but not least, AI technologies are advancing the ability to significantly improve sustainability through predictive maintenance and process optimization.
Automation is becoming the core of production processes, unlocking potential that goes far beyond mere efficiency improvements. The spectrum ranges from simple handling systems to fully autonomous factories. Flexible solutions tailored to the specific needs of companies are in demand. The focus is particularly on robots and cobots, which, combined with AI technologies, enhance efficiency in manufacturing. In conjunction with AMR systems, they contribute to the automation of transport tasks. Intuitive user interfaces and AI-driven assistance systems simplify interaction, enabling even less experienced employees to be productively involved. The goal is to increase productivity and compensate for the skilled labor shortage.
Digital Networking: Data Collection And AI in Focus
Digital networking opens new horizons in data collection, with standardized interfaces significantly increasing production flexibility. Standardized interfaces like Umati (universal machine technology interface) enable communication between old and new machines. This interoperability creates transparency and offers enormous potential for optimizing production processes. Targeted data collection and analysis make processes more efficient, detect errors early, and enhance competitiveness. Artificial intelligence (AI) plays a key role in this: it identifies patterns, enables predictive maintenance, and optimally allocates resources. The interplay between digitalization and AI drives product customization forward and sustainably transforms production.
Artificial Intelligence is Transforming Manufacturing
Artificial intelligence is transforming industrial manufacturing. It enables machines to learn from data, make decisions, and optimize processes. This technology goes beyond pure automation, integrating machine learning and intelligent assistance systems. In practice, process parameters are refined, predictive maintenance is implemented, and adaptability to individual production requirements is increased. AI not only simplifies operation but also enhances process stability and efficiency, turning machines into learning partners. These developments ensure competitiveness in a dynamically changing global market.
EMO 2025 in Hanover, Germany promises to be a platform for the exchange and presentation of these megatrends in manufacturing technology, addressing the challenges of the future.
