Cleaning Cleaning Blasting of Large Parts

The French company Semat SA specializes in the development, manufacture, sale and maintenance of commercial vehicles for waste management. The company recently invested in a new production hall with completely new technology at its headquarters in La Rochelle. The central element is a Rösler RHBD-T continuous overhead conveyor blast machine.
In the new production hall of the subsidiary of the German Zoeller Group, containers are welded together and then prepared for painting. This preparation includes the removal of scale from the pre-process and, in some cases, rust, so it is classic cleaning blasting, one of the standard tasks in the field of blasting technology. The particular challenge in Semat's case, however, was the enormous size of the parts to be processed. These are completely welded together containers for refuse collection vehicles, which can be up to 6,500 mm high (approx. 256 in) and have a diameter of up to 4,000 mm (approx. 157 in). "There were initially several options on the table," explains Ronny Paasche, Global Sales Expert at Rösler. "But the overhead conveyor continuous shot blast machine quickly emerged as the favorite, because it gives our customer the opportunity to blast their large parts quickly, efficiently and in an energy-saving way. At the same time, the principle of vertical blasting means that it takes up significantly less space than a classic continuous flow system." In this case, vertical means that the workpiece is moved upright into the machine and blasted all around.
However, it wasn't just the compact machine design that convinced Semat to buy from Rösler. "What made the difference for the customer was the large number of highly developed features, which have long been standard for us, but set the benchmark in the market," continues Ronny Paasche.
