Cell Chemistry CATL Brings Sodium-Ion Batteries into Mass Production
The supplier has received an order for its sodium-ion batteries. The new cell chemistry is thus taking the step from the laboratory to industrial production—also for cars.
The battery market is facing the biggest upheaval in years. Lithium-ion batteries are facing serious competition in China for the first time. The Chinese manufacturer CATL has just received an order to supply sodium-ion batteries with a total capacity of 60 gigawatt hours. It is a milestone for the new battery technology, which is finally taking the step from the laboratory to large-scale industrial production.
