With the Smart Cockpit 2025, AUO realizes its vision for the future of mobility and breaks with the conventional framework in which human-machine interfaces in vehicle cockpits are visualized with a variety of infotainment applications. The new cockpit integrates a series of micro-LED display HMI solutions for the automotive sector, which extend across the sunroof, the side windows, the center console and the steering wheel. AUO utilizes the transparent, large-format and flexible advantages of Micro-LED displays to redefine smart cockpit design and enhance human-machine interaction. In addition, in-vehicle computing has been used to extend its applications to artificial intelligence (AI) and the Internet of Vehicles (IoV).

Sunroof becomes an experience

The company is introducing new applications for human-machine interaction in intelligent cockpit systems. For example, it has integrated segmented transparent micro LED displays into a large Virtual Sky Canopy and the XR Interactive Window, which combines multiple functions including touch and sensor functions. AUO enhances the sunroof with an enhanced, immersive experience that combines technology and art and connects with the side windows to reveal a fantasy world of changing lights beyond the confines of the vehicle, reminiscent of a 360-degree movie theater. The adjustable transparency of the sunroof and side windows allows the driver and passengers to enjoy different forms of entertainment without worrying about privacy, safety and sunlight.

Safety-oriented design

The intelligent cockpit of the future will offer more entertainment and business experiences—but safety-oriented design will remain the focus. For a more intuitive driving experience, AUO has developed the Morphing Center Control in collaboration with subsidiary BHTC. This functions as a flat screen when not in use, but opens up when required and transforms into a three-dimensional physical button that supports several control elements. It also uses the flexibility of micro LED display technology to improve human-machine interaction and thus increase driving safety. In this control mode, the driver can easily access and quickly switch between various functions such as driving mode change, gear shift, air conditioning and in-vehicle entertainment systems.

In addition, AUO has integrated the Foldable Cruise Pilot into its intelligent cockpit, which combines a precision motion mechanism and micro LED display technology to enable seamless switching between manual and autonomous driving modes. The steering wheel and display can be folded in different modes if required, while maintaining image quality. In manual driving mode, the display is partially folded and only shows the most important driving statuses such as speed and mileage. When switched to AD mode, it can be fully unfolded to provide multimedia functions such as audio and video entertainment, shopping or conferencing, transforming the vehicle into a mobile workstation.

Easy integration of display interfaces and HMI

On the road to Software-Defined Vehicles (SDV), AUO is accelerating the integration of display and human-machine interfaces with its display HMI solutions to meet the needs of users. Through the development of its edge computing capabilities, it aims to provide highly integrated, connected computing solutions that will enhance the smart cockpit with a comprehensive range of services. The new in-vehicle computing supports display HMI, software services and AI functions. It simultaneously connects and controls multiple display units, sensors and devices in the car for audiovisual entertainment, voice assistants and AI-supported driver assistance functions.

By integrating its new in-vehicle computing solution into the Smart Cockpit 2025, AUO has realized the XR Interactive Window function in the rear seat. Through AI-generated data processing, vehicle occupants can simply circle the elements displayed on the window to interact with them or receive relevant information on the screen. This immersive, interactive and realistic experience can also be extended to mixed reality games. In-Vehicle Computing data processing also synchronizes with the Horizon Image Glass to visualize the display functions of the instrument panel, center console and passenger seat in an integrated panoramic view. In addition to an unrestricted exterior view, it provides real-time displays of vehicle status, navigation and road conditions, as well as value-added services such as personalized settings and safety alerts.
