AI Can be Strategically Beneficial for Digital Procurement

The importance of the interplay between technology and human expertise in the future was also a key topic at the "Procurement of Tomorrow" event series initiated by Facturee. At the kick-off event in June in Berlin, industry experts discussed the growing significance of AI-supported procurement processes as well as their limitations. Jan-Henner Theißen, keynote speaker, emphasized the necessity of not delaying the implementation of AI any longer. At the same time, he stressed the importance of involving teams early on! Without employee acceptance and participation, any technical innovation would remain largely ineffective. Alejandro Basterrechea, Director of Indirect Procurement at Zalando, also warned that AI risks becoming an isolated tool without real added value for procurement.

The event series will be continued in September to further promote the exchange between procurement managers, technology providers, and industry representatives. The aim is to create sustainable decision-making bases for industrial procurement through the combination of automation and consultation.
