Alpitronic has expanded its decentralized megawatt charging system, the HYC1000, with the addition of the new High Performance Dispenser for ultra-fast charging. The new model was developed for electric vehicles with high charging power. The HP Dispenser delivers currents of > 1,000 A and charging power of up to 11,300 hp via a liquid-cooled CCS2 charging connector.

The global market for electric cars is experiencing dynamic growth. Last year alone, approximately 21 million electric passenger cars were sold. In the premium segment in particular, new models are capable of higher charging power. The charging infrastructure must keep pace with this development—providing high power output for high-voltage architectures on the one hand, while also offering the flexibility to support electric vehicles already on the market and a variety of deployment concepts. Against this backdrop, the Italian energy technology manufacturer Alpitronic is expanding its decentralized megawatt charging system, the HYC1000, with the new High Performance Dispenser (HP Dispenser) for ultra-fast charging. The new version can deliver currents of more than 1,000 A and charging power of up to 1,300 hp via a liquid-cooled CCS2 charging connector.

Flexibility for Site Operators

Alpitronic emphasizes that the HYC1000 platform allows for more flexible site design and enables a single system to serve different vehicle classes. The new HP Dispenser operates within a voltage range of 150 to 1,000 V. Power is supplied via the central Power Cabinet in increments of 85 hp. A Power Cabinet has eight outputs, and one HP Dispenser occupies two of them. This means that up to four HP Dispensers can be operated from a single Power Cabinet.

Charging is almost as fast as filling up

For vehicles capable of handling the corresponding charging power, the HP Dispenser charges the battery from 10 to 80 percent in less than 10 minutes. High charging power can significantly reduce downtime, especially on long-distance trips. As a result, the dispenser helps create a charging experience that closely resembles a traditional gas stop, particularly on expressways or highways.

Test Under Difficult Conditions

Alpitronic tested the new dispenser’s performance last year on the high-speed track in Nardò, Italy. A prototype was used there during a record-breaking run, enabling charging stops over an eight-day period with an average charging power of around 1,140 hp. In a subsequent test, the prototype dispenser achieved a peak charging power of 1,400 hp at a peak current of 1,176 A. The insights gained from this test were incorporated into the production development.

The HP Dispenser will initially be available in Europe. Its launch in the U.S. and Canada is scheduled for next year. (se)
