3D printing also works in clean rooms

The Freeformer is also particularly well-suited for use in clean rooms and for new applications in medical technology. Typical products include resorbable implants, breast prostheses, or medical devices and aids. At the trade fair, examples of nose and ear prostheses made from sterilizable TPE (TM5 Med), a thermoplastic elastomer, are presented. A new application idea is the "iKnee," a patient-specific implant based on medical TPU (thermoplastic polyurethane) that can be minimally invasively introduced as cartilage replacement into the knee. Another specialist manufactures internally hollow medical valve bodies with the Freeformer 750-3X, printing these components in a multi-material combination of polypropylene (PP) and TPE to be airtight and durable.

Seamlessly track additively manufactured components

An indispensable requirement for the use of additively manufactured functional components in safety-relevant areas is a reproducible and process-secure printing procedure, according to Arburgadditive. This is needed, for example, for patient-specific implants or safety-relevant components in aircraft, where the possibility of seamless documentation and traceability of production parameters for each individual component is essential. For this purpose, the specialists offer the customer portal app "ProcessLog." With it, a variety of process and production order data for AKF components can be clearly displayed and documented graphically. This ensures not only transparency but also high part quality, resulting in less waste.
