Volkswagen will launch its electric SUV in early 2027 ID 4 and ID 5 with the new ID Tiguan. Based on the further-developed MEB+ platform, the five-door model is set to impress with a fresh design, an upgraded interior, and a revised control concept. Pre-sales begin on October 13, with prices starting at just under 43,000 euros ($49,020).

Visually, the ID Tiguan differs significantly from its predecessors. VW has already introduced this new design language with ID Polo and ID Cross have been introduced. Traditional door handles are also making a comeback. Compared to the ID 4, the electric Tiguan has grown slightly and now measures 4.62 meters (15 feet 2 inches) in length. The trunk has a capacity of 534 to 1,577 liters (18.8 to 55.7 cubic feet), and for the first time, there is a 32-liter (1.1-cubic-foot) storage compartment under the hood.

First VW with a Passenger Display

Inside, VW has introduced a new cockpit layout featuring a 10-inch driver display and a 15-inch touchscreen. For the first time in a European VW, a 12-inch screen is also available for the front-seat passenger. The digital instrument cluster offers various retro displays, including one modeled after the blue-backlit round gauges of the Golf IV. Physical controls are once again available for important functions such as climate control and volume.

There are three powertrain options to choose from. The base model combines a 140-kW (188-hp) rear motor with a 58-kWh battery for a range of up to 450 kilometers (280 miles). Above that is a rear-wheel-drive model with 210 kW and a 77-kWh battery, which is expected to deliver a range of up to 600 kilometers (373 miles). The all-wheel-drive version, which is also equipped with the larger battery, delivers 220 kW (295 hp) and has a range of up to 560 kilometers (348 miles).
