Siemens Digital Industries Software has become the first software provider to sign a strategic framework agreement with the European Chips Joint Undertaking (Chips JU). The Chips JU aims to strengthen Europe's semiconductor industry through cooperation between the EU, Member States and the private sector. The agreement is part of the European Chips Design Platform (EuroCDP) project.

The agreement grants companies that are accepted into the Chips-JU program access to Siemens EDA (Electronic Design Automation) software at predefined prices and conditions.

"The agreement significantly lowers the barriers to entry for smaller companies, start-ups and research organizations to gain access to design, verification and manufacturing software—the same tools used by large semiconductor companies," explains Jean-Marie Saint Paul, Senior Vice President EDA Global Sales at Siemens EDA.

Access to Professional EDA Tools

The Chips JU was established under the European Chips Act to strengthen Europe's technological sovereignty and competitiveness in the semiconductor sector. "The contract with Siemens is a key enabler for our design platform," says Jari Kinaret, Executive Director of the Chips Joint Undertaking. "The platform is an essential part of the capacity building under the Chips Act and will help European start-ups and SMEs to develop into profitable fabless companies."

According to Siemens, the cooperation will offer participants in the EuroCDP project the following advantages, among others:

  • Acceleration of innovation cycles and reduction of development costs
  • Focus on design and innovation instead of complex procurement processes
  • Access to digital twin functions and AI-supported design tools
  • Greater cost transparency for research and development projects

"By being the first software provider to establish this framework, we are underlining our commitment to European technological leadership," says Saint Paul. Further information on the EuroCDP project is available online on the platform. sb)
