Walter: Double-Toothed GD Grooving System

With the new Groov·tec GD parting-off system 5011-P and the GD26 cutting inserts, Walter offers a new platform for parting, grooving, and copy turning. The system, consisting of a holder and double-edged indexable inserts, features a patented double-tooth profile. It ensures a uniquely stable, form-fitting connection between the tool body and the indexable insert. This provides reliable absorption of lateral forces and prevents the cutting insert from being pushed out sideways. This is especially advantageous for grooving, expanding grooves, chamfering, copy turning, and parting-off. The precise meshing between the cutting insert and holder not only provides maximum stability and minimizes wear, but it also enables longer service life of the cutting inserts and increases the tool holder's lifespan by up to 50%.

As field trials with customers showed, the Groov·tec GD parting system can be operated with higher cutting parameters thanks to the innovative tooth profile and optional precision cooling. This results in increased output and productivity. Walter offers Groov·tec GD in shank sizes ranging from 16 to 25 mm (or 5/8 to 1 inches) with parting widths from 2.5 to 6.0 mm (approx. 0,1 to 0,23 inches), making it flexibly applicable across a wide range of applications. Another special feature is the new Tiger·tec Gold indexable inserts developed specifically for parting operations, available in four PVD and three CVD grades. They also contribute to the system's universal applicability in steel, stainless steels, difficult-to-machine materials, and cast materials. This makes the parting system particularly suitable for applications where high process reliability and precision are required – such as in unmanned production or series manufacturing. Moreover, users can benefit from approximately 30 to 150% longer service life compared to standard systems with prism clamping.
