The EMO audience has long been interested in the topic

For Dr. Matthias Baur, team coordinator for structural and process dynamics at Grob-Werke, working on the VDMA standard sheet came at just the right time. The EU directive CSRD (Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive) requires most companies to provide comprehensive sustainability reporting starting in 2025. "Standardization helps achieve a common understanding and eliminate numerous uncertainty factors," says Baur, who has already been involved in various standardization processes, including for energy efficiency. His opinion is likely shared by the VDW, which is committed to improving the environmental performance of machine tools. This is for a good reason! Two years ago, a visitor survey at EMO Hannover 2023 (Germany) showed that for 68 percent of visitors, the focus on the Future of Sustainability in Production was highly significant, with the international audience registering even higher interest, at around 75 percent, than the German visitors. As the organizer of EMO Hannover 2025, the interest for VDW as the organizer is likely high to initiate a new standard that could make the environmental performance of machine tools comparable and elevate it to a new level in the long term.
