According to the Chinese industry publication 36kr, the new platform incorporates eight newly developed components: a flame-retardant electrolyte, a flame-retardant safety separator film, a cathode material coated with nanomaterials, a cell safety device, an aerogel thermal insulation pad, a fire-resistant coating, a circuit stability control system, and a high-voltage cooling and system control strategy.

At the product launch in Munich, Germany, CATL spokespeople claimed that sudden battery fires in EVs are now extremely unlikely. Even in the rare case of thermal runaway, the NP3.0 batteries are designed to immediately block heat spread between cells, preventing a full-scale battery fire.
