Bosch MC Battery Service Innovations has secured its first customer for its Battery-as-a-Service solution. Additionally, the first Energy Service Hub featuring the technology of the joint venture between the German supplier and the Japanese car manufacturer was inaugurated in Chizhou.

At the facility operated by Shanghai Lingzhou Technology, batteries of electric trucks can be swapped or charged within a few minutes. The charging process is optimized using artificial intelligence (AI) and complemented by an additional service offering. This allows for better monitoring of the vehicles and their batteries, preserving their value. Currently, more than 100 trucks use the facility daily.

More Electric Trucks on Chinese Roads

Electric trucks are increasingly taking to the roads in China. Last year alone, nearly 30 percent of all newly sold trucks were New Energy Vehicles. By 2030, more than half of the newly registered trucks in the Middle Kingdom could be fully electric. At least, that's the forecast from Bosch.

Optimize Charging Process

Bosch MC Battery Service Innovations aims to address one of the biggest challenges for operators of electric vehicle fleets with its solutions. The diminishing battery capacity over time, depending on usage and charging habits, complicates accurate planning of the value development of both the vehicle and its energy source. With its Battery-in-the-Cloud solution, Bosch provides the technical foundation for corresponding services. The software calculates the exact health status of the drive battery, predicts its development, and helps optimize the charging process. "With this service, Bosch and Mitsubishi Corporation create real added value for fleets," emphasizes Thomas Pauer, executive vice president of Bosch Power Solutions. "Even as the health status declines due to aging and numerous charge cycles, fleet operators can always keep track of their vehicles' battery conditions with our solution—a crucial criterion for everyday usability and the overall operating costs of a fleet."

Improve Aftermarket Services

Collected charging data can also be used to optimize aftermarket services such as connected insurance, vehicle and battery maintenance. Bosch and Mitsubishi have been working together on this topic since 2019. An initial test run of the services has already been successful.
