Display technology is constantly evolving and offering electronics developers new possibilities for various applications. One example is the Neo:LED technology from LG Display. This technology, distributed via Hy-Line, bridges the gap between classic TFT-IPS displays and modern OLED quality. Neo:LED displays deliver impressive color representation with 99.5% DCI-P3 color gamut, making them ideal for color-critical applications.
Equipped with a high contrast ratio of 2,000:1 and energy efficiency, they are optimized for mobile and medical applications. Available in sizes of 14" and 16" with a WQXGA resolution of 2,560 x 1,600 in a 16:10 format, they provide ample vertical space for productive tasks. Their high energy efficiency and image quality make them especially suitable for devices with low energy profiles or medical imaging systems such as MRI and CT.
Digital Signage With Full HD
Another highlight is the DSBoutdoor from Heinekingmedia. This robust 55-inch digital signage display offers a Full HD resolution of 1,920 x 1,080 pixels and remains clearly visible even under direct sunlight with a brightness of 3,500 nits. Thanks to its IP56 certification, IK-10 safety glass, and anti-graffiti coating, it is weatherproof and resistant to extreme environmental conditions. Functional in temperatures ranging from –4 to 122 °F, it is designed for outdoor applications and offers versatile connectivity options such as HDMI, USB, RS232, RJ45, and HDBaseT for seamless integration.
Dot-Matrix Display With Four Lines of 20 Characters Each
A compact display with four lines of 20 characters each and a controller comes from Display Visions.

In confined spaces such as mobile devices or control cabinet construction, compact displays are ideal: they offer four lines with 20 characters each in a compact outer dimension of 3 × 1 inches. The display modules from the manufacturer Display Visions are equipped with a high-contrast alphanumeric LCD Supertwist display with a controller. A standard LED backlighting ensures the text appears clear and highly readable.
The dot matrix display is available in three variants. Users can choose between black text on a white background, white text on a blue background, and a yellow/green display. Automatic temperature compensation ensures an operating range of –4 to 158 °F without needing to adjust the contrast. Control is handled via an integrated RW1073 controller, which is largely compatible with the widely used HD44780 controller. The built-in character set provides 240 letters, numbers, and symbols; additionally, users can define eight custom characters.
The connection is made via a fast SPI interface. Alternatively, the display also offers a 4- and 8-bit data bus interface. No mechanical assembly is required, as the module can be plugged into the circuit board and soldered or alternatively socketed. An operating voltage of 3.3 V is necessary. With a minor modification, the display can also be powered with 5 V. The LED backlighting operates with a forward voltage of typically 4.2 V (yellow/green) or 3.2 V (blue/white and black/white) at 150 mA or 45 mA. In addition to displaying 4 x 20 characters, other versions of the display are available in the same housing. The options include dot matrix displays with 1 x 8 characters and 2 x 16 characters, as well as a full graphic version with 122 x 32 pixels.
Displays for Rugged Use
The display from Data Modul with 15.6 inches offers Full HD resolution and uses IPS technology.

The 15.6-inch TFT display TX40D202VM0BAA from Data Modul, equipped with a Full HD resolution of 1,920 x 1,080 pixels and vivid color representation, is designed for demanding outdoor applications. With a lifespan of 70,000 hours, the LED backlighting offers flicker-free dimming via PWM input. Support for dual-channel LVDS and the ability to display 16.7 million colors make it ideal for robust environments.
Finally, JDIT-K offers TFT displays that comply with EN50155 OT3 standards, providing a reliable solution for use in rail vehicles. Their robust design and resilience to extreme environmental conditions ensure safe operation in demanding applications, which is particularly advantageous in trains.
The offered displays range from diagonals of 10.4 to 15.6'' and vary in resolution, brightness, and contrast. All models have successfully passed EMC and vibration tests and feature shock resistance up to 150 G. The EN50155 standard ensures that the displays are designed for safe and reliable use in harsh environments, including extreme temperature fluctuations, high mechanical stress, and electromagnetic interference.

Colored E-Paper With 2,560 x 1,440 Pixels
Samsung introduces a colored e-paper display with the EM32DX model.
(Image: Samsung)
With the new colored e-paper from Samsung, energy-efficient possibilities for digital signage in gastronomy, retail, and transportation emerge. The EM32DX model combines high visibility with energy efficiency and a slim design.
According to Amit Chatterjee of Samsung Electronics, the model offers an easy-to-use content management solution with Samsung's proprietary VXT and serves as an alternative to printed standees. It uses color imaging algorithms for smooth color gradients and a natural paper-like display. The panel offers up to 60,000 displayable colors with the six base colors black, white, red, yellow, blue, and green per pixel. The series utilizes a color imaging algorithm for a paper-like appearance.
For static images, hardly any power is required. Energy consumption measurements are based on IEC62301. According to this standard, energy consumption below 0.005 W is recorded as 0 W. A battery with a capacity of 4,600 mAh ensures that the display can operate for up to 200 days without a direct power connection. This reduces energy costs and enables flexible positioning. Sustainability also plays a role: the housing is made of 50% recycled plastic, and the elimination of printed advertising materials helps conserve resources. The 32-inch display offers a WQHD resolution of 2,560 x 1,440 pixels and is easy to install. It features USB-C, WiFi, and Bluetooth interfaces and additionally provides 8 GB of storage. (heh)
