Structured abrasives are particularly used for fine and ultra-fine grinding tasks, where a high surface quality is the goal. Typically, a long processing time with many grit steps is required, and the work is often unpleasant for users, as it involves strong heat and noise development as well as high emissions in the form of dust and odors.

The abrasive experts at VSM AG have now significantly improved the principle of a structured fine abrasive. VSM Xelerion achieves a flawless, uniform, and reproducible scratch pattern with consistently high material removal - and is more effective and user-friendly than comparable products.

The reason for this is a completely newly developed grain structure: The Xelerion dots, consisting of multiple layers of sharp abrasive grains in resin bond, are intentionally randomized, i.e., random, unlike similar products. The new, innovative manufacturing process makes the crucial difference on several levels:

Cooler grinding—perfect surfaces

Thus, the unique dot structure of the Xelerion dots ensures an optimized distribution of force and heat, resulting in a cooler grinding process, which counteracts discoloration and deformation, for example. Unlike other abrasives, the surface geometry of Xelerion remains "open" until the end of the service life, also positively affecting the processing temperature. Overall, the temperature input into the workpiece is reduced by up to 70 percent.

Rework and material waste are significantly reduced. At the same time, a fine, even surface is created, resulting in a perfectly reproducible finish - up to a flawless scratch pattern for high-gloss surfaces.

More adaptable and precise

The random distribution of the dots on a flexible fabric backing results in outstanding adaptability to the workpiece geometry. Grinding belt flexibilities are achieved that are not possible with conventionally distributed abrasives. This allows tight radii and complex contours, such as tools or medical instruments, to be processed accurately and precisely. This high "conformability" of Xelerion produces an extremely uniform removal on the surface.

Users breathe a sigh of relief

Specifically developed for use on the backstand and with power tools, Xelerion also scores in terms of user-friendliness. The state-of-the-art abrasive is easy to handle and delivers its full performance even with lower force or minimal contact pressure. Reduced noise, odor, and dust development, as well as exceptionally high smoothness, make working significantly more pleasant, especially compared to other structured abrasives on the market.

Productivity at maximum—fewer grit steps needed

The improved material removal behavior significantly simplifies the grinding process as a whole. Even with fine grits, the removal is high, allowing a rough pre-grind, for example with grit 80, to be effortlessly smoothed out with Xelerion. And more: common grit steps can even be skipped, so the desired surface finish is achieved with fewer grinding passes and tool changes. This means: productivity is massively increased, especially if many grit steps were common until now.
