Many sheet metal workers calculate their quotes using different programs, Excel, or even by hand. The Swiss software "Steel it" now makes short work of the entire quote calculation and also creates an operation plan for ERP or PPS.

Years of grown Excel calculations, complicated manufacturer software, unmanageable data storage—quotation calculation is a major time-eater in many sheet metal processing companies. Add to that, the calculated prices are often unreliable, imprecise and difficult to reproduce in the end. Surcharges for further work steps are often forgotten due to lack of expertise. But above all, it takes too long for the quotes to land on the customer's table.

Precise quotes for entire assemblies

The new software Steel it from the Swiss software forge "Figure it" claims to save up to 90% of time. Quotes are created intuitively and with just a few clicks. Steel it simplifies the sales process and reduces costs.

The software solution processes STEP files of individual sheet metal parts or entire assemblies automatically: Upload via drag and drop, then Steel it reads the relevant geometry data, recognises the necessary work steps and creates a reliable quote in seconds. This contains all necessary operations, the material as well as purchased parts and external processing steps linked with the system. Additions or changes can be flexibly recorded manually. In the end, the offer is sent directly to the customer.

At the push of a button, the software creates a transparent operation plan, which can be exported to an ERP or PPS system if necessary. Steel it also aims to speed up the workflow from the quote to the machine by automatically creating operation plans. The software is system-independent. This means it can be seamlessly integrated into an existing ERP and into the existing machinery.

Significant time savings in practice

The considerable time saving is confirmed by the customer side. "For large orders, we estimate time savings of 80 to 90 percent," explains Mathias Oehler from the internal sales department of Stürmsfs AG from Goldach, Switzerland. Zweifel Metall AG in Amriswil (Switzerland) is also highly pleased with the efficiency of Steel it: "We too are experiencing enormous time savings: The possibility of combining the most common work steps is a game changer. We are now already 30 to 50 percent faster. With the 3D Analyzer, which we are currently optimizing for our needs with the developers from Figure it, we promise ourselves a further halving of the time required. At the same time, the quotes are becoming more reliable, precise, and traceable," says managing director Andreas Zweifel from Zweifel Metall AG in Amriswil about the sustainable impact of Steel it on daily operations.

Figure it supports the digital networking of industrial processes. The software company from Herisau in the canton of Appenzell Ausserrhoden has been developing software since 2019, with which workflows can be optimized and time can be saved.
