Koller Plastics Technology GmbH, together with German Edge Cloud (GEC), successfully implemented a comprehensive digitization project in less than a month. As a result, Koller now has a clear overview of its production processes and energy consumption. Errors can be identified more quickly, and optimization potential becomes visible.

The successfully implemented digitization project provides another advantage for Koller Kunststofftechnik GmbH, a manufacturer of injection-molded parts for the automotive industry: the company became Catena-X-ready in a very short time. In a proof-of-concept (PoC), a Catena-X use case was implemented between Koller Kunststofftechnik GmbH and the BMW Group. Koller successfully transmitted traceability data securely to the OEM in accordance with Catena-X standards. This was made possible by the Catena-X-certified product Oncite DPS from German Edge Cloud. Productive deployment for data exchange between the automotive supplier and the OEM is planned for 2025.

The applied procedural model and the use of Catena-X-certified products demonstrate the performance capabilities of the standards established within the automotive network.

Integrate Various Data Sources

This project was driven by the increasing quality requirements and documentation obligations of the automotive industry, as well as the need for effective energy monitoring. The challenges so far included integrating various data sources, including machines and energy sensors, and overcoming isolated systems that previously did not allow for a holistic view of production processes.

By implementing the "Transparency" and "Energy" software modules of Oncite DPS, these obstacles were eliminated. The solution enables centralized data collection and standardization from machines, equipment, and energy sensors. This ensures not only real-time data availability but also supports the execution of long-term analyses.

After Three Days of Near Real-Time Data Availability

Just three days after implementation, those responsible at Koller Kunststofftechnik were able to easily read relevant data as well as the OEE—replacing the previously time-consuming manual recording process. This led to significant effects within a short period. The detailed overview of production processes and energy consumption allows for faster error identification and the recognition of new optimization potentials. This comprehensive transparency enables the company to make fact-based decisions and proactively improve production processes.

This project demonstrates how value-creating digitization in production can be realized within the shortest time and bring immediate measurable benefits. With the implementation of Oncite DPS, we can not only position ourselves as an innovative and competitive partner but also, within a few days, lay the foundation for the requirements of the automotive industry.
