Phoenix Contact Smart Business and Telekom Deutschland are joining forces to expand e-charging solutions for company cars. The focus of their cooperation is the "Charge Repay" service. The solution consists of the Telekom's PreCheck and installation as well as the Charge Repay service from Phoenix Contact, through which charging costs can be billed to the employer.

The joint solution from Phoenix Contact and Telekom allows for a retrofit of existing wallboxes. This means that wallbox models that are already installed at employees' homes do not need to be replaced. They can be retrofitted for a simple, fully automated and verifiably lawful billing of electric company vehicles.

Billing of company cars at the home wallbox is complicated

"More and more companies are partially or completely converting their company car fleets to electric vehicles. However, due to the heterogeneous wallbox landscape, billing for company cars charged at home is problematic," explains Mathias Weßelmann, Managing Director Phoenix Contact Smart Business the initial situation. "Company car drivers who want to charge their vehicle at the home wallbox usually have to manually and not legally secure the reimbursement of costs for the charged energy from the employer. This is prone to errors and causes costs for employees and fleet management. Together with Deutsche Telekom, we are simplifying the expansion and conversion of an infrastructure for billing domestic charging processes."

Phoenix Contact provides the smart service, namely the scalable e-mobility service, Charge Repay. Deutsche Telekom, with its nationwide network of certified electrical technicians, is responsible for setting up the new service and installing the Charge Repay gateway, including a SIM card. The transmission of data to Phoenix Contact Smart Business's billing service is carried out via the provider's network.

Legally compliant billing

The Charge Repay service, which is at the heart of the initial phase of the partnership, records billing-relevant data from domestic wall boxes and enables a kWh-accurate billing of the home charging processes of the electric company car. Independent of the wall box used, this allows for legally compliant billing. From onboarding to billing, the company car driver is guided through the web app in an automated way and does not need to worry about anything else.

The employer's fleet management gets an overview of the business charging processes. The reimbursement to the employees is carried out fully automatically via the service upon request. The drivers themselves always keep track of their charging processes and refunds in the web app. They have the option to distinguish between private and business charging processes and to record further data, such as the electricity price or the vehicle's mileage.
