The vehicle of the future will increasingly be controlled by software. To take this development into account, those responsible at vehicle software specialist Apex.AI and the electronics expertise of LG Electronics came together in December 2024 to sign a memorandum of understanding.

As part of a strategic partnership, the developers from both companies want to bring a next-generation high-performance computer into the car that integrates advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), the cockpit and other control units.

The prototype will be based on the Apex.OS and will be presented at CES 2026—in January 2026. It is expected that this new platform will then particularly appeal to automotive OEMs from Japan and Korea in order to integrate the "seamless, scalable and secure platform for advanced vehicle functions" into future mobility solutions.

"By partnering with Apex.AI on security-certified middleware solutions, we look forward to not only obtaining security certification for our Piccolo Mixed Critical Orchestration (MCO) solution, but also leveraging Apex.AI's software expertise to introduce security-certified solutions that encompass software and hardware separation, service integration, operations and overall management," says Dongwook Kim, SVP at LGE A2X Center. Apex.AI hopes that the partnership will consolidate its own position in the field of the software-defined future of mobility. So let's look forward to seeing what the partners will present at CES next year. (sb)
