Nearly 40,000 trade visitors came to IZB 2024 at the Wolfsburg Allerpark to the booths of 843 exhibitors. With the guiding theme “Empowering Partnerships,” the supplier fair highlighted the importance of strategic alliances between OEMs and suppliers. A particular focus was on knowledge transfer to accelerate the market readiness of new technologies.

The increased commitment of Volkswagen has been very positively evaluated. "Our concept has proven successful: At the four theme-focused Volkswagen Group Hubs, we were able to discuss numerous proposed solutions to key challenges with our partners," summarizes Dirk Große-Loheide, member of the extended Group Management of Volkswagen AG and Board Member for Procurement of the Volkswagen brand. "The discussions made it clear once again that we share a common responsibility—Volkswagen and its partners in the supplier industry."

Focus on innovations and future topics

Numerous exhibitors utilized the IZB Livestage in Hall 4 to showcase their innovations and premieres. On stage, there were more than 30 expert lectures, panel discussions, and keynotes on topics such as Interior & Exterior, Electronics & Connectivity, Powertrain & Battery, as well as Metal, Body & Chassis.

Lecture program impresses

"On the Livestage, we were able to present our innovation roadmap to an international expert audience and then delve deeper into it in personal discussions and in the Tech-Hubs with Volkswagen," explains Craig Piersma, Director of Marketing and Corporate Communications at Gentex. The supplier demonstrated how the classic rearview mirror is transformed into an electronics module: Numerous functions around and within the mirror, including glare protection and cameras, take on safety and ADAS tasks, and additionally display more information in the displays beyond the "rear view."

Among the topics intensively discussed at the IZB were new technologies and their faster integration into development and production processes, with a particular focus on sustainability aspects. In the panel discussion "Metal, Body & Chassis," for example, Heiko Engels from Kirchhoff Automotive emphasized the importance of innovative materials and processes using the example of the new steel grade "SIBORA." This steel offers increased crash safety while simultaneously reducing vehicle weight and improving the CO2 footprint of the components.
