Aerotech: Dual-Axis Galvo Scanner as a Scalable Solution for Precise Laser Applications

With the AGV-CPO series, Aerotech is launching high-performance dual-axis laser scan heads onto the market. The compact systems in the new "Core" performance class offer 22-bit resolution, minimal thermal drift and outstanding dynamics and are suitable for research and process development as well as for industrial precision machining.

All AGV-CPO models—available with 0.4, 0.55 or 0.8 in apertures—are based on the same core architecture as the larger AGV-HPO and AGV-XPO variants. This includes two digital encoders (0.0025 in apart), which ensure better accuracy. The control electronics are located outside the galvo for thermal decoupling and better long-term position stability. Optional direct water cooling for motors and galvo blocks and an air-cooled mirror help to maintain thermal stability. Important for the design: The beam inlet can be mounted on the right or left side of the CPO.

The control system is standardized for the entire scanner series and uses the Automation1 control platform with the GL4 laser scanner drive. This allows processes to be scaled seamlessly from the AGV-CPO to the most powerful AGV-XPO without any hardware changes.

For Research and Industry

With the AGV-CPO dual-axis scan heads, Aerotech presents a cost-optimized entry-level solution for precise laser processing. According to the Aerotech experts, the new galvo scanners are suitable for micro material processing, laser texturing, high-speed drilling and cutting as well as ultra-fast laser applications. Functions such as position-synchronous output (PSO) and infinite field of view (IFOV) ensure precise laser control even with dynamic movements.

Aerotech offers standard and custom integration services to ensure fast commissioning, from system tuning and parameterization to complete documentation. All AGV-CPO models can be seamlessly combined with linear systems, rotary tables or complex motion platforms.
