The demands on manufacturing companies are increasing: growing variety of variants, decreasing batch sizes, and rising time and cost pressures. The Marbach clamping technology specialist Hainbuch is addressing this development with a consistently expanded product portfolio and is presenting innovative solutions at the EMO that help make production more flexible and economical, as well as fully automate processes.

Automated Clamping Technology

Hainbuch has been regarded for years as a pioneer in the field of automated clamping technology. As early as four years ago, the company was one of the first providers to launch a solution that allows clamping heads—with and without stops—and even entire clamping devices to be changed automatically. This technology is now successfully in use in numerous customer projects and has opened the door to cost-effective automation, even for small batch sizes.

Now comes the next logical step: Hainbuch introduces a solution for automated jaw changing on the chuck. Even with large external clamping forces, this allows a fully automated change of clamping elements for different workpiece diameters—the integrated query sensors ensure that the process is safe and reliable.

The result: Even with frequently changing workpiece variants, such as in small series or single-part production, the entire setup process can be executed fully unmanned—reliably, reproducibly, and economically.

To ensure quality even in automated processes, the IQ clamping devices with integrated measurement intelligence can be incorporated, either directly in the process or as a downstream "post-process" measuring station. The Toplus IQ chuck for external clamping and the Maxxos-IQ mandrel for internal clamping continuously measure workpiece diameter, workpiece positioning, and clamping force.

Contactless Data and Energy Transmission

Through contactless data and energy transmission, the measurement data is sent directly to the machine control system for evaluation. The control system then performs a target value comparison. In the event of deviations, a notification is issued, or a correction is initiated immediately. This reduces waste and ensures a consistent quality level. Additionally, the IQ clamping devices can detect increasing process forces and thus tool wear.

With the new Torok, Hainbuch optimizes a versatile all-rounder that has proven itself equally well on turning and milling machines as well as 5-axis machining centers. Thanks to its rotationally symmetric design, greatly reduced interference contour, and easily replaceable flange, it offers exceptional flexibility.

The new Torok also allows very sensitive manual clamping on the machine. Additionally, the new system ensures absolutely reliable workpiece stabilization using axial pull against the stop.

Furthermore, the user can quickly convert the Torok to internal or jaw clamping using the adaptations of the Hainbuch system. This high level of flexibility in workpiece clamping is a real asset for modern manufacturing environments.

Profile

The Marbach clamping technology specialist is a leading company in solutions for clamping, setup, measurement, and automation for milling, turning, and grinding on machine tools. Since 1951, employees have been manufacturing in Germany. Hainbuch is represented worldwide with eleven subsidiaries. Starting as a contract turning shop, Hainbuch is now family-owned and managed in its third generation.

Also new to the program are clamping heads with insert jaws starting from size 125. Handling larger clamping heads has so far been almost impossible without a crane—simply due to their heavy weight. With the new, more cost-effective variant, where the clamping head base body is complemented by interchangeable insert jaws, this effort is significantly reduced: the clamping head is much lighter and therefore easier, faster, and above all, more ergonomic to handle.

Stability and Repeatability

In terms of stability and repeatability, the new solution is on par with the classic version. Customers now have the choice between the proven one-piece version and the new variant with interchangeable insert jaws—depending on the application and individual requirements. Whether it's automation, setup time optimization, or ergonomic working, Hainbuch demonstrates how modern clamping technology can make a decisive contribution to increasing productivity today. At the trade show booth, users can experience live how intelligent clamping technology is shaping the manufacturing of the future.
