At the center of Fanuc's presentation at the AMB is the new generation of CNC, the core of all Fanuc products. The FS500i-A is touted to come with numerous advantages: According to the manufacturer, it is powerful, supports all machine kinematics, and thanks to its advanced, adaptable iHMI2 interface, offers great clarity as well as graphical user support for the operator. Simultaneously, the CNC meets the highest cybersecurity standards.

The FS500i-A is among the new Fanuc products and can be seen in action on a demo machine at AMB. The new CNC generation achieves up to 2.7 times higher performance in combination with the drives—while also saving about 10 percent on energy.

Programming of the integrated PLC control is now also possible with IEC-structured text. With the CNC Design Studio, there is a central development environment for engineering. In the simulation software CNC Guide 2, a digital twin can be created via a virtual control, which, supplemented by a servo model, replicates the real behavior of a machine. Users who want to create a customer-specific interface of the HMI can freely design this with the software module "Fanuc Picture 2."

Automate CNC machines user-friendly with robots

Another highlight according to Fanuc is the vertical machining center Robodrill α-D28LiB5ADV Plus Y500. This compact, economical, and simultaneously highly efficient machine offers an automatic tool changing capacity for 28 tools, a larger travel distance of the Y-axis of 500 mm, and a tool spindle of up to 24,000 rpm. This opens up versatile application possibilities, including the machining of complex 5-axis components. Fanuc demonstrates high-dynamic and precise machining on three different Robodrill models during the trade fair.

Additionally, the efficiency and reliability of Fanuc machines are enhanced through their automation. For instance, the Robodrills feature an integrated robot interface. The standardized "Easy Robot Interface" is designed to provide the machine operator with a clear overview, enabling optimal control of the robot over the machine. This rapid connection between machine and robot is suitable for both small contract manufacturers and large industrial operations.

Visitors can also see a new robot controller at the Fanuc booth: The R-50iA, which, according to the company, is the world's first robot controller to meet international cybersecurity standards—and that with improved performance.
