For pure external cylindrical grinding of workpieces with a maximum length of 250 millimeters, Emag Weiss proves there's another way with the new WPG 7 CNC external grinding machine.

In many application areas, according to Emag, it is uneconomical to use oversized universal cylindrical grinding machines for the external machining of rather small components, because so much floor space is lost, while the functionality is not fully utilized. Thus, those who want to finish small and medium-sized components may not need a large grinding machine, as Emag Weiss points out with reference to the new WPG 7 CNC. It is a pure external cylindrical grinding machine that fits on two Euro pallets. And it can be easily transported to its future location as a crane machine, the manufacturer emphasizes.

"State of the Art" grinding without frills

Once the grinding machine is in place, the grinding process can be started immediately - without any limitations in terms of quality or process reliability. The WPG 7 CNC, due to its rigid construction, has a negligible heat displacement. In addition, an optional high-precision "In Process" measurement with Marposs technology is available, which performs its work during the machining process regardless of the cycle time, as Emag notes. Grinding can be done with straight or angled external grinding wheels, which have a maximum diameter of 500 millimetres. Depending on the task, they can of course also be profiled. Conversely, this means that the integration of an internal grinding wheel is not possible. There is also no B-axis for pivoting the spindle head. However, the rest of the WPG 7 CNC is a "state of the art" machine including very dynamic axes, a powerful and adjustable grinding wheel drive, and a workpiece spindle stock with a fixed or running tip (MK4/MK5 or W20/W25).

Automation through own linear portal.

The machine's graphic dialog interface, which is based on a Fanuc control system, is also important for the productivity of the external cylindrical grinding machine. It simplifies the input of technology parameters for specific cycles. The control system already contains all common grinding cycles in the basic scope. Last but not least, it is interesting for many users that Emag Weiss not only offers this machine for manual loading. Many individual linkages can also be implemented around the machine. This is achieved because the specialists have developed their own linear portal for the WPG 7 CNC, which is virtually integrated into the housing. It first removes the raw parts from a chain conveyor belt about two meters long and then feeds them into the work space from the side at high speed. After the process is completed, the finished parts are returned to the conveyor belt via the portal. The whole process is easily controlled via the machine panel.

Everything for pure cylindrical grinding.

With these overall conditions, the WPG 7 CNC is an ideal grinding machine for pure external grinding processes on smaller parts with a maximum length of 250 millimeters and a maximum weight of around 30 kilograms. Given the available automation capabilities, even medium volumes can be quickly achieved. Dynamic axes and drives ensure fast grinding processes and the intuitive dialog control system allows for uncomplicated retooling processes. The current success in the market shows that this approach is of interest to many users: The machine is frequently requested at EMAG Weiss and is already in use in many places.
