The US tech billionaire announced that the companies Spacex and XAI will now work together to build data centers for energy-intensive tasks that will be stationed in space. The Starship rocket is needed for this because it can also carry larger loads upwards. Musk estimates (once again) that this should be the cheapest way to generate computing power for artificial intelligence (AI) in two to three years' time. First, however, the deal will allow XAI to be supplied with billions from Spacex's coffers. The AI player has a high capital outlay and must prevail against strong competitors—including Google and "ChatGPT" inventor "OpenAI"—in order to be successful. Spacex and, most recently, Tesla have already invested two billion dollars each in XAI as part of financing rounds and received stakes in return. Spacex probably paid 250 billion dollars for the takeover of XAI, according to US media reports. However, there was no official information on this. However, the combined space and AI supercompany is expected to be valued at around 1.25 trillion dollars in total, as previously reported by the financial service Bloomberg.

Musk Super Company to Defuse Energy Dilemma With AI

Musk envisioned hourly launches of the Starship rockets, each with a payload of 220 short tons. Musk believes that this will enable millions of tons of technology to be launched into space. According to Musk's already well-known ideas, the stellar data centers are to be powered by solar energy, while the USA is currently expanding nuclear power for this purpose. Factories on the moon, however, could benefit from the resources there and build satellites that could be placed even deeper in space, Musk continued. Tesla is also known to be developing humanoid robots in its network of companies, which should also be able to be used in adverse conditions. However, Musk has also been announcing his intention to colonize Mars for many years. And Starship has so far only made test flights, not all of which have been successful. But Spacex is now practically indispensable for the US space program. However, it is debatable whether such technology would really be cheaper in space. Musk probably holds a stake of around 40 percent in both companies. An IPO is still envisaged for both. At the same time, something is happening in terms of autonomous driving ...

Is Waymo Driving Away from Tesla With Billions in Cash?

Another high-tech race is about the market for driverless robotaxis. Google's sister company Waymo is reportedly currently filling its coffers for global expansion. Waymo raised no less than 16 billion dollars (13.5 billion euros) from investors in a financing round, as is emphasized. The company was valued at a total of 126 billion dollars. Things could get tight for Musk. Waymo's robotaxis have now completed over 400,000 paid rides with passengers per week in six US cities, as well as in Silicon Valley, without a human at the wheel. Waymo is also aiming for rapid expansion in the USA and has already sent its autonomous vehicles to London and Tokyo. So far, Waymo robotaxis have driven a good 127 million miles without a human at the wheel! Tesla Robotaxis, on the other hand, can only be seen in Austin, Texas, and they still need a chaperone. As is well known, Musk insists on the idea of achieving autonomous driving with cameras alone, while Waymo relies on additional technology such as laser radars (lidar). Nevertheless, Must believes it can become the number one when it comes to robotaxis.
