Large volume V8 petrol engines are as much a part of muscle cars as stars and stripes are to the US flag. Dodge is now taking an alternative path nevertheless.

The Dodge Charger Daytona is now also available with electric drive. The two-door muscle car icon with 400-volt architecture and dual-engine all-wheel drive is available in two power levels. The base variant with 335 kW and boost function to 365 kW costs approximately 55,000 euros. The top model, which starts at around 67,000 euros, provides 463 kW to 493 kW.

Equipped with a mechanical locking differential, the 2.7-tonner is ideally supposed to sprint from standstill to 100 km/h in 3.3 seconds. Dodge specifies a top speed of 215 or 220 km/h. Despite the electric drive, the Daytona is supposed to sound like a combustion engine. An intense sound is provided by a sound system called "Fratzonic Chambered Exhaust".

Approximately 400 to 500 kilometers range

According to the relatively realistic US standard, the stronger version offers a range of 418 kilometers, while the weaker version can go 510 kilometers. The energy storage is a net 94 kilowatt-hours large battery in the vehicle floor. The maximum charging power should be 183 kilowatts.

The two-door electric Daytona is scheduled to roll out to dealers in the fourth quarter of this year. A four-door version will follow in the first half of 2025. In the second half of 2025, Dodge also plans to offer both body versions alternatively as Charger Sixpack with six-cylinder engines in two power levels. The three-liter engine in the "Sixpack S.O." produces 309 kW/420 hp, in the "Sixpack H.O." it is 405 kW/550 hp.

Officially, the Dodge brand no longer exists in Germany, and a return, for example with the new Charger, seems unlikely. In any case, it is likely to be available here through independent importers—probably at significantly higher prices than in the US.
