The logistics service provider Active Ants, specializing in e-fulfillment and headquartered in Roosendaal, Netherlands, currently works for 45 companies at its logistics center in Dorsten (Germany). It also offers value-added services such as packaging and custom-printed cartons. Active Ants' target groups include small to medium-sized online retailers from various industries, such as cosmetics, healthcare, dietary supplements, small electronics like toys and mobile phones, as well as fashion with a focus on functional clothing. In the first step, Sereact, a pioneer in the field of embodied AI for robotics, is now equipping the Dorsten site and, subsequently, all other international locations of the logistics provider in the Netherlands, Belgium, France, and England with robots.

With the wide variety of products and industries we handle at our Dorsten location, we needed an innovative solution for our picking processes to serve our customers more efficiently, quickly, and reliably in the future.

Multi-Month Test Run Convinces

As announced by Active Ants, a multi-month test run with the AI-based robotics solutions from Sereact convinced the Dutch company: The system, with its disruptive approach, "sets new standards in the field of automation and fits perfectly with the needs and requirements of Active Ants," as Jeroen Duijts explains.

Unlike competing systems, Sereact's AI does not rely on master data of items. Instead, by using cameras and vision systems, it perceives objects with a variety of structures and shapes and autonomously defines the optimal motion sequences through "zero-shot reasoning." As a result, the Sereact system requires less training time to recognize and process objects, thereby increasing efficiency and saving time in the picking process.

System Operates in Regular Operation

At Active Ants in Dorsten, a test run involving the logistics provider's Operational Excellence team has been successfully completed since the beginning of the year, and the system has been fully operational since July. Ralf Gulde, CEO and co-founder of Sereact, stated: "We are proud to have convinced Active Ants of the capabilities of AI-based robotics and look forward to further collaboration."
