Kambabura on the export ban for various raw materials: "Until further notice, there is an export ban on all minerals that are currently in transit!" These measures are intended to improve transparency in the minerals sector, promote further processing and thus intensify value creation in Zimbabwe. Critics have previously accused the government of allowing Chinese investors to export raw lithium to China instead of processing the valuable mineral in the country. Zimbabwe also has large deposits of gold, platinum and diamonds. At the end of 2023, the country also announced the discovery of natural gas near the northern border with Mozambique and Zambia.
