A world premiere at the VW works meeting was the first preview of the upcoming all-electric Golf 9, although it should be noted that this was only shown to the employees as a silhouette in black and white on a large screen. The side profile looks almost exactly like that of the current Golf 8. VW Works Council Chairwoman Daniela Cavallo commented that this means that the ninth generation of the Golf will remain a true Wolfsburg model. VW is planning to relocate production of the current combustion engine model to Mexico from the second half of 2027 in order to make room for future e-models in Wolfsburg (Germany), as we have learned. The all-electric successor is then due to start production at the main plant at the end of the decade. Nobody needs to worry that VW will change its plans again. According to Cavallo, the e-Golf from Wolfsburg has already been decided—without any ifs or buts.

Brand Egotism of VW Subsidiaries Must Stop

The VW subsidiaries such as Audi and Porsche, on the other hand, should be kept on a shorter leash by the Group, Cavallo demanded, adding: "Wolfsburg must once again become the hub for the entire Group." Individual brands can simply no longer afford to go it alone. In her opinion, what is being decided at the moment is more or less "kraut und Rüben". There is a lack of discipline. And she called on the top management around Oliver Blume to speak words of power in order to curb so-called brand egotism. Common goals are therefore needed, preceded by clear guidelines and, if necessary, intervention by the Group Management Board.

VW is on Course, But Has Not Yet Reached the Finish Line

And brand boss Thomas Schäfer spoke of a decisive year for VW with regard to the half a dozen world premieres for 2026: "The Volkswagen brand is making progress! The figures show that we are on the right track! As we know, this position has been hard earned. The course is right, but the goal has not yet been reached, which is why the reins should not be slackened now. Group CEO Blume, who was not actually on the list of speakers, also addressed the workforce with a short statement. His words were: "We are leading the way in the mobility of the future!" This is the success of the entire workforce and at the same time an incentive for the Group. Blume expressed his heartfelt thanks for this—on behalf of the entire VW Board of Management.
