A new cable for a new era: With LIMEVERSE, Leoni achieves a milestone on the path to increasingly sustainable mobility. The vehicle cables of the green product line are 100 percent recyclable and radically reduce the CO2 footprint.

Vehicle cables: LIMEVERSE cables with bio-based and mass-balanced insulation materials conserve fossil resources and reduce the CO2 footprint by up to half. The cable class covers the entire cable portfolio at Leoni, from single-core vehicle cables, data cables, sensor cables or flat cables to EVC charging cables without any compromises in thermal and mechanical stability or electrical properties.(Image: Leoni)

The current LIMEVERSE vehicle cable from Leoni uses bio-based materials for insulation based on sustainable and/or renewable resources instead of petroleum, verifiable by bio-carbon in the standard ASTM D6866 test procedure. In addition, so-called mass-balanced plastics are used, for whose synthesis in the reactors of the chemical industry the need for petroleum-based raw materials could be further reduced by bio-based raw materials.

The result is a significantly lower CO2 footprint up to 50 percent compared to conventional vehicle and charging cables - depending on the type of cable. From the single-core vehicle cable to multi-core sensor cables, coaxial and data transmission cables to charging cables and extruded flat cables, the cable covers all applications. In addition to PVC mixtures, the product line also includes polypropylene (PP) and TPE-U. This means that temperatures up to 125 °C are not a problem.

Immediate reduction of CO2 footprint

The stable cables meet the high electrical, mechanical, and thermal quality requirements and specifications of the automotive industry. They can be used by customers as the green nervous system of the car without complex interventions in existing manufacturing processes. They thus contribute directly to reducing the CO2 footprint of the total vehicle.

According to their own statements, engineers in Nuremberg are already developing solutions today to further increase the proportion of sustainable materials in the LIMEVERSE universe. This is done using bio-based materials, which in addition to renewable raw materials, are made from recycled waste. In collaboration with our partners, this creates viable solutions that meet the specifications of the industry and are ecologically sensible. (kr)
