Ford closed the past quarter with a high loss of 11.1 billion dollars, according to reports. The restructuring of the highly loss-making electric car business was the decisive factor. However, a fire at an aluminum supplier and the import tariffs imposed by US President Donald Trump also played their part. However, the loss was not surprising. The US car giant had already announced a write-down of 19.5 billion dollars on battery-powered vehicles. Ford had closed the same quarter of the previous year with a profit of 1.8 billion dollars. Meanwhile, turnover fell by five percent year-on-year (to 45.9 billion dollars = 38.7 billion euros).

Ford Wins Mainly Through Combustion Engines And Commercial Vehicles

At divisional level, the picture was similar to that seen in other quarters. The electric car division again posted an operating loss (of 1.2 billion dollars). Meanwhile, cars with combustion engines brought Ford an operating profit of 727 million dollars. And the commercial vehicle division earned a good 1.2 billion dollars on this basis. As a reminder: following the success of Tesla, the major US car manufacturers General Motors, Ford and Stellantis invested billions to bring more electric cars into their model ranges. This obviously did not bear fruit, which is why Ford wants to focus more on hybrid vehicles in the future. There will be smaller models of purely electric vehicles. The all-electric version of the large F-150 pick-up is known to have been discontinued.
