At Traton, a group-wide Research & Development department, known as "Group R&D," has commenced its work. Approximately 9,000 employees from the R&D departments of Scania, MAN, International, and Volkswagen Truck & Bus have transitioned under the umbrella of Group R&D. The head of the unit is Niklas Klingenberg.

However, the individual brands will not operate entirely without their own development: The 9,000 individuals working in Group R&D will collaborate with around 3,000 colleagues in the research and development teams of the Traton brands. In the so-called Brand Identity Development, they will work on brand-specific products and a modular system for components, the "Traton Modular System."

The modular system is intended to include components that the respective brands can utilize. With the same technology, Traton aims to meet various performance levels and requirements. With the shared development department, the commercial vehicle group primarily seeks to avoid duplicate work and develop more efficiently. "For the successful future of the Traton Group, we need every single engineer and every single talent we have in our organization. Their expertise is the foundation of our success," commented Niklas Klingenberg at the launch of the new group development.
