Toyota's fuel cell R&D and production facility in Beijing, a major project in the city, is a product of multi-party collaboration. Supported and guided by the government and adhering to strict safety standards, Toyota is working closely with industry experts. The new plant spans 113,000 m².
44,000 m² mainly consists of seven building units, such as production facilities, test workshops, research and development buildings, laboratory buildings, hydrogen refueling stations, comprehensive station buildings and waste storage facilities. Based on Toyota's technology, FCRD will promote the research and development of fuel cell systems, and FCTS will accelerate the production and sales of fuel cell systems and stacks. In the first phase, a maximum production capacity of 10,000 units per year is planned. The second phase of the project is expected to start in 2026, which should further improve the company's production capacity and competitiveness in the market.

Expand cooperation with local companies

Since April 2019, Toyota has been supplying fuel cell components to commercial vehicle manufacturers in China, and has successively established cooperative relationships with many domestic commercial vehicle companies such as China FAW Co, Dongfeng Motor Group, Guangzhou Automobile Group and Beijing Automotive Group, as well as fuel cell system integrators such as Sinohytec. Adhering to Toyota's concept of "Creating is educating people" to cultivate local talents in the field of hydrogen energy, and using the TPS Toyota production method to build a localized R&D and production system, the R&D subsidiaries FCRD and the production company FCTS established by local partners have received support from governments at all levels and partners, and the operation of the new plant has further improved the construction of Toyota's entire fuel cell system process system for the Chinese market from R&D to production to sales and service.

In the future, the Japanese automaker plans to further expand cooperation with local Chinese companies on the basis of hydrogen energy technology cultivated over many years, and strengthen and accelerate the transformation of new productivity achievements such as hydrogen energy technology. (se)
