At its Gogne headquarters in Aosta, the stainless steel specialist will now for the first time replace fossil natural gas with green hydrogen in an industrial heat treatment process. With this, Cogne aims to make a strong statement for the climate-neutral transformation of energy-intensive industrial processes. By using green hydrogen, produced through electrolysis from renewable energies, up to 57,300 pounds of CO₂ emissions could be avoided per ton of hydrogen used, according to Cogne's calculations.

Hydrogen for Steel—Steel for Hydrogen

At the same time, Cogne Acciai Speciali is engaging along the hydrogen value chain as a material partner. With its extensive portfolio of high-performance stainless steels, the company offers suitable steels for valves, sensors, pipelines, and other hydrogen-carrying components. According to Cogne, the materials are also designed to meet the highest demands for corrosion resistance, wear resistance, and hydrogen embrittlement. In this way, they support the technological implementation of the energy transition in Italy and beyond.
