For the study titled "Intelligent Manufacturing 2025: Trends for the Digital First Age and Beyond," 500 decision-makers for CPQ, PLM, engineering modeling, and simulation software in the USA and Germany were surveyed. Three key themes were identified that manufacturing companies will focus on in 2025 and beyond:

  • Tools and talents,

  • Data security and keeping pace with new technologies and

  • skills shortage.

Overall, it was found that companies will significantly increase their investments in software and their manufacturing and engineering teams in 2025, it said.

Training important

Despite the forecasted continuous growth of the industry, the study by Revalize revealed that manufacturing companies will face several challenges next year. Among other things, they must navigate the rapidly changing technological landscape. Technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI), robotics, and the Internet of Things (IoT) will redefine what a competitive advantage looks like in the future. Additionally, companies need to retrain and upskill their workforce to adapt to new tools and conditions.

Further findings of the report:

  • Implementation of new technologies: 91 percent of companies plan to implement new technologies, tools, or software in the next twelve months.

  • Increased budgets and staff numbers: 70 percent of respondents stated that their company's software budget has increased compared to the previous year. Additionally, 57 percent increased their team's staff numbers.

  • AI presents both challenges and opportunities: Despite perceived challenges, 28 percent of respondents expect AI to have a major impact on the industry by 2050—this number is higher than for any other surveyed trends and technologies. A total of 43 percent plan to implement AI-powered solutions for quality control.

  • Sustainability measures will increase: In addition to increasing revenue or sales, 29 percent of respondents say their company plans to implement sustainable technologies this year. Furthermore, 21 percent predict that greater sustainability and environmentally friendly manufacturing will have the biggest impact on the manufacturing industry by 2050.

The manufacturing industry stands on the brink of a transformative era driven by advanced technologies such as AI, Industry 4.0, and cloud-based solutions. While this is exciting, we are also aware that manufacturers will continue to face challenges, including supply chain disruptions, labor shortages, and increasingly sophisticated security threats.
