Stellantis has finalized its family of vehicle architectures, unveiling the STLA Frame multi-energy platform designed for pick-ups and large SUVs, primarily from its American subsidiary brands. This platform, featuring ladder frame technology, will also support commercial vehicles. The debut will kick off with Jeep and Ram, including the potential launch of an electric Ram 1500 in Germany.

Like the two passenger car architectures in the STLA family, "STLA Small" and "STLA Large", the frame variant is not purely an electric car platform, but is also intended for use with combustion engines and hybrids. Specifically announced are battery-only models and range extender variants in which a combustion engine is used as a generator.

Short charging times and high power density

The platform with a payload of 1.2 tons and a towing capacity of 6.5 tons enables both electric vehicles with a 400-volt system and those with the more complex 800-volt technology. The latter, with their short charging times and high power density, are likely to be aimed primarily at the private customer market. Batteries with an energy content of up to 200 kWh have been announced, which should enable ranges of up to 800 kilometers (approx. 500 miles). The charging capacity is specified at up to 350 kW.

The platform's electric motors deliver up to 250 kW and, when used in pairs, can also function as an all-wheel drive with 500 kW of power.
