After Stellantis and Valeo developed a remanufactured front camera in December 2023 as part of their cooperation in the circular economy, the partners are now launching a remanufactured LED headlight in Europe and an infotainment display. The partners made the announcement at Rematec in Amsterdam.

The proportion of electronics per vehicle will double by 2030 compared to today. The automotive industry therefore plays a major role when it comes to the circular economy. To address this issue, the automotive supplier opened a Circular Electronics Lab in Nevers, France, back in 2022. This is where the first remanufactured front camera was developed together with Stellantis. The two companies have now presented a remanufactured LED headlight and an infotainment display.

Up to 70 percent less CO2 emissions

Remanufacturing is a standardized industrial process that extends the life of a product. It is remanufactured according to OEM specifications and receives the same performance and warranty as new parts as part of Stellantis' Parts&Services offering. In collaboration with the car manufacturer, Valeo is launching a remanufactured headlight, the first as Valeo emphasizes.

The reconditioning of headlights enables up to 50 percent of the raw materials recovered from a disused LED headlight to be reused, especially the valuable parts such as the LED module itself. As a result, CO2 emissions can be reduced by up to 70 percent compared to the production of a new headlight. Stellantis is the first car manufacturer to integrate this product into its after-sales offering in Europe, which will be available in the SUSTAINera REMAN range from the end of the first half of 2025. The first application will be for the Peugeot 3008 and 5008 models and the second for the Peugeot 508 model.

Display reconditioned

In addition, Valeo has developed a remanufactured display together with Stellantis. All too often, a vehicle's screen is thrown away even though it could be remanufactured. This is exactly what the partners are now offering. The Circular Electronics Lab in Nevers will be remanufacturing the display, which will be available from June in the SUSTAINera range for the following models: Peugeot 308; Citroen C3 and Aircross; DS3 Crossback; Opel Grandland X, Corsa and Mokka.

Counteracting the shortage of raw materials

Mobility must be decisively decarbonized. On the other hand, various resources are also becoming increasingly scarce. In order to minimize the consumption of raw materials and drive decarbonization, the circular economy comes into play. Valeo has developed the 4R strategy for this: Robust Design, Repair, Remanufacturing and Recycling. The remanufacturing portfolio includes products such as starters, alternators, air conditioning compressors, brake calipers and dual-mass flywheels as part of a cross-brand program. The supplier currently remanufactures one million remanufactured products per year and aims to double this capacity by 2030.

Under the SUSTAINera label, Stellantis offers remanufactured automotive spare parts with a wide range of 12,000 part numbers in more than 40 different product lines. The portfolio includes starters, alternators, clutches, turbochargers, fuel injectors, brake calipers, electronic control modules, control units, multimedia, SCR tanks, transmissions, engines and high-voltage batteries for electric vehicles.

Cooperation with The Remakers

Together with The Remakers, Valeo is remanufacturing the inverter for the Renault Zoe. The electric motor and power electronics are reconditioned at the Veszprem site in Hungary, which specializes in inverters. The overhauled inverter is then integrated into the power control module by The Remakers.(se)
