It’s getting serious for the joint venture Sony Honda Mobility and the electric sedan Afeela 1. The electric car is showcased as a pre-production model at CES. At the trade show, the new automaker also announced an SUV variant.

Sony Honda Mobility (SHM), the joint electric car brand of Sony and Honda, is once again using the CES technology fair as a stage to document further steps towards market launch. The sedan Afeela 1, which will be available in the USA in a few months, is being presented as a pre-production model. Additionally—and this is new—SHM is hinting at an SUV variant with the "Afeela Prototype 2026."

SHM is sticking to the price of just under $90,000 for the sedan, as announced a year ago. The key specifications also remain unchanged: all-wheel drive with 400 kW and a range of around 311 miles. The Afeela 1, measuring nearly 16 feet in length, is equipped with 40 sensors enabling automated driving functions. Initially, Level 2+ will be offered, with Level 4 planned for the future. Advanced assistance and automation features will be unlockable later for an additional fee, once legal frameworks allow it.

The market launch in 2026 will initially be limited to California. In 2027, Arizona and Japan are to follow as additional markets. SHM has not yet provided any information regarding a potential Europe launch. In 2028, the SUV variant, which is expected to be largely technically identical to the sedan, is set to go into series production.
