Schaeffler has specified its plans for job cuts in Schweinfurt, Germany. "The agreements signed in July 2025 provide for the reduction of around 590 jobs, primarily in administration and the so-called indirect areas." Around 5,100 people work at Schaeffler in Schweinfurt. Employers and employees had "agreed on a package of measures to strengthen the competitiveness of the site", a company spokesperson said.

At the same time, the Management Board's decision to discontinue production at the Steinhagen site in North Rhine-Westphalia by the end of 2026 and integrate it into Schweinfurt would create new jobs - adding more than 100 positions in Schweinfurt. In Steinhagen, around 200 people mainly manufacture spherical plain bearings for industrial applications. The reason given was that the sales trend there has been negative for years.

Cuts Announced in November

The supplier from the Franconian town of Herzogenaurach announced major staff cuts last November. "If you delay structural adjustments - as you can see with others - you are forced to take radical measures later," Schaeffler CEO Klaus Rosenfeld told the German Press Agency at the time.

Schaeffler announced the reduction of 4,700 jobs in Europe, including 2,800 in Germany. This corresponds to around 3.1 percent of the total workforce. However, some jobs will also be relocated within Europe or to non-European countries, so that Schaeffler is talking about a net reduction of 3,700 jobs, it was said at the time. The works council feared that around 700 jobs would be lost in Schweinfurt.
