Qualcomm has announced a multi-year technical partnership with Google. The aim of the partnership is to drive the digital transformation in the automotive industry and the development of software-defined vehicles. For example, the supplier wants to combine its Snapdragon Digital Chassis with Android Automotive OS and Google Cloud. Together, they want to create a new standardized reference platform, Qualcomm announced. This platform will be used to develop cockpit applications with generative artificial intelligence (Gen AI).

The basis of this development platform will be “Google AI” in order to efficiently create Gen AI-enabled experiences in the car via a framework. These include intuitive voice assistants, immersive map experiences or real-time updates according to the occupants' requirements.

The applications will use the supplier's edge AI processors. In addition, a collection of AI models (“Qualcomm AI Hub”) is designed to help make it easier to deploy AI applications in the cockpit of future vehicles than it is today.

Easier deployment of AI functionality for cockpits

This year has already seen several announcements in the automotive industry that point in a similar direction. For example, Stellantis is working with Amazon and Blackberry on a virtual working environment. The aim is to virtually replicate control units and software. The goal: to be able to develop new functions for the infotainment system within hours.
Marelli Electronic Systems and Wipro are working on a very similar topic. The supplier calls its virtual vehicle cockpit "Cabin Digital Twin". This is designed to help automotive manufacturers bring connected vehicle services to market faster. Marelli uses Wipro's “Cloud Car” product for the digital twin.
