In 2024, the damage caused by digital attacks in Germany amounted to 290 billion dollars. The industrial sector was particularly affected: at around 60 billion dollars, a significant proportion was attributable to attacks on production and operational processes. Pyramid Computer GmbH is responding to this with a new IoT gateway that has been specially developed to protect OT networks in manufacturing.

The abtis OT-Security Box was developed on behalf of a customer and is manufactured in Ichtershausen, Thuringia. It serves as a secure bridge between industrial systems and cloud services. The aim is to capture data from machines and sensors, check it for malicious code and then forward it in a controlled manner. This protects against attacks at the interface between OT and IT.

This is exactly where the system comes in. It filters data streams, analyzes them for malware and only forwards verified content, for example to Microsoft Defender for IoT or platforms such as Microsoft Azure and VMware. This creates protection directly at the source—where malware first appears. For Pyramid, this also means strategic positioning in the security-relevant industrial IT segment.

Compact, Fanless, Suitable for Industrial Use

In terms of technology, Pyramid relies on its own 19-inch VarioFlex platform. At its heart is an energy-efficient 14th generation Intel Core i7 TE processor, which does not require active ventilation. This saves space, reduces maintenance and is suitable for use under industrial conditions.

In addition to the technical equipment, it was crucial for abtis, an IT security company specializing in Microsoft technologies, that the hardware was compact, powerful and produced in Germany. The partnership with Pyramid was open and solution-oriented right from the start.

abtis has been part of the Your.Cloud Group, a fast-growing MSP network in Europe, since 2024. The combination of Microsoft expertise and OT experience is intended to enable integrated security solutions aimed at SMEs and large companies in the DACH region. (mc)
