Funditec Intelligence, the technology sector of Funditec, specializes in artificial intelligence for physical autonomous systems. Together with Fagor Arrasate, a cooperative integrated into the Mondragón Corporation and known for its customized design and manufacture of industrial equipment and automation systems, announce the creation of Primus Robotics. The new company is dedicated to the development, design and manufacture of industrial humanoid robots (humanoids), which, it is emphasized, can work safely in very demanding environments and where precision, safety and availability are required. The new joint venture—50 percent owned by each company—aims to be the first company to offer robotic systems of this kind with industrial AI. To achieve this, Funditec's expertise will be combined with Fagor Arrasate's engineering, automation, robotics and manufacturing skills. And as a tribute to the important Basque navigator Juan Sebastián Elcano and the motto on his coat of arms: "Primus circumdedisti me" ("You were the first to circumnavigate me"), the name Primus was chosen for both the company and its product line.

First AI-Equipped Humanoid is in Development

The company's first product is already well advanced: It's called Primus P1! According to the cooperation partners, this humanoid AI robot is designed for tasks such as material handling, operational support, maintenance and assistance in production processes. Thanks to its own AI-based edge computing operating system, Primus OS, the humanoid will expand automation in environments originally designed for humans and facilitate collaboration between robots, operators and industrial plants. The project will begin with an initial industrialization phase and a production capacity of around 200 robots per year. This number is to be gradually increased to over 3,000 units per year. This first phase will take place in a 2,500 square meter hall that has been set up at the Fagor plant in Arrasate. The first functional prototype of Primus P1 is planned for the end of 2027. Primus P1 will of course be followed by other versions with extended capabilities for additional industries.
