Series production of the bZ4X Robotaxi is the result of a long-standing collaboration between Pony.ai and Toyota that began in 2019. In 2020 alone, the Japanese car manufacturer invested around 400 million US dollars in the Chinese company. Toyota China and GAC Toyota are supplying the vehicle platform, the redundant vehicle design and the research, development and production capacities for the autonomous vehicle. The Level 4 system comes from Pony.ai.

More than 3,000 Robotaxis in Total

Both companies are planning to produce more than 1,000 robotaxis this year. Pony.ai aims to increase its entire robotaxi fleet to more than 3,000 vehicles by the end of 2026. The vehicle is to be used in various Chinese cities.

Robotaxi models from BAIC and GAC are already in use in Beijing, Guangzhou and Shenzhen. Pony.ai will now complement these. (se)
