Originally, at Opel, the E in GSE stood for injection. Now, the three letters represent the brand's sporty electric models—like the Mokka GSE, which will premiere in September at the IAA (International car exhibition) in Munich.

From motorsport to the streets: As the more civilian sibling of the Mokka GSE Rally, Opel is bringing the Mokka GSE onto the road. Its performance figures are quite impressive given its compact format. With 207 kW and a maximum torque of 345 Nm, the street GSE matches the rally version. It accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h (approx. 62 mph) in 5.9 seconds and is electronically limited to 200 km/h (approx. 125 mph). This makes the newcomer Opel's fastest fully electric model to date.

As is typical for electric vehicles, the Mokka GSE delivers its full power only in Sport mode. In "Normal" mode, its top speed is limited to 180 km/h. In the "Eco" setting, everything is geared toward efficiency and maximum range. The battery, with a gross capacity of 54 kWh and a net capacity of 51 kWh, is expected to provide up to 330 kilometers (approx. 205 miles) of range thanks to the battery management system of the rally variant. The Rüsselsheim team has not yet shared consumption data. However, the roughly 70-kilometer (approx. 40 miles) lower standard range compared to the "normal" Mokka Electric suggests consumption figures that are noticeably higher than the 15.4 kWh/100 km of the 115 kW E-Mokka.

Weight Under 1,600 Kilograms

To ensure maximum stability and safety during dynamic driving, Opel engineers have equipped their latest model with an ideal weight of under 1,600 kilograms and a sophisticated setup. The front-wheel drive features a Torsen limited-slip differential, specific axles, and new double hydro shock absorbers. The Mokka GSE is lowered by one centimeter compared to its more conventional sibling. Key components such as the motor, inverter, battery, and wiring harness are supplied by the GSE Rally.

Of course, the new addition to the Mokka family also outwardly demonstrates the inner values it embodies. The electric sports SUV rides on a specially tailored combination of aerodynamically optimized 20-inch wheels paired with Michelin Pilot Sport EV 225/40 tires. Behind the lightweight alloy wheels in GSE design, the yellow GSE brake calipers are clearly visible. Yellow and black lettering on the front and sides emphasize the unique status of the GSE among the small electric SUVs. Specific inserts on the front bumper and rear further evoke the rally prototype.

All in all, the newcomer, at first glance in a Rüsselsheim (Germany) Opel studio, does not present itself as a young rebel with a revolutionary attitude. Instead, it appears as a solidly built compact SUV with sporty ambitions.

Mokka for New Customers

The interior is dominated by gray, black, white, and yellow colors. Special Alcantara sport seats with integrated headrests are part of the standard equipment, as are GSE-specific Alcantara door inserts. The steering wheel is slightly flattened at the top and bottom, and the pedals are made of aluminum. Familiar features include the individually programmable central instrument in a ten-inch format and the central color touchscreen. At the push of a button, it provides data specifically relevant to the GSE. For example, current values for G-force, battery management, or acceleration can be read at a glance.

So far, the Mokka has attracted most new customers to the brand with the lightning bolt. The GSE is likely to further enhance its appeal in the future. Opel is currently holding back on providing details about the market launch and prices.
