The new digital audio signal processors (DSPs) from NXP support the increasing demand for AI-based audio in software-defined vehicles (SDVs). In the SAF9xxx family, Cadence's Tensilica HiFi 5 DSPs are used in combination with dedicated neural network accelerators. This allows self-learning audio and speech applications to be efficiently implemented.

New applications

In addition, the SAF9xxx family features a software-defined radio option with up to five integrated tuners that cover all major global broadcast applications such as DAB, HD-Radio, DRM, CDR and AM/FM. The one-chip device supports audio and radio applications and is easily scalable.

The audio performance is an important distinguishing feature for in-vehicle infotainment and gives automakers the opportunity to set mid-range and high-end vehicles apart from others. With its machine learning capabilities and the integration of neural network accelerators, the DSP offers new application possibilities. For example, it can recognize and distinguish drivers and passengers based on their voice pitches and accents. In addition, it recognizes sirens of emergency vehicles using machine learning algorithms, providing the driver with audiovisual information about the location and movement of the emergency vehicle.

Partner network

The SAF9xxx family is optimized for low latency audio applications and can actively and in real time suppress engine, road, wind, and tire noise. The gigahertz-speed device is supported by a fast integrated memory and a variety of analog and digital interfaces. Thanks to gigabit Ethernet, connection to the vehicle network can be realized.

A partner network with a comprehensive range of audio software efficiently supports audio implementations. The SAF9xxx series will be presented at the Audio Engineering Society's 5th International Conference on Automotive Audio from June 26 to 28, 2024 in Gothenburg. (se)
