Kurt Sievers, President and CEO of NXP, has announced that he will step down from his positions at the semiconductor manufacturer at the end of the year. The departing executive made this announcement on the occasion of the release of first quarter 2025 results.

The resignation is for personal reasons and has nothing to do with differences with the supervisory board or differing views on the current economic situation of the chip manufacturer, both Sievers and the company emphasized. "Kurt has been a dynamic, visionary, and extremely effective CEO of NXP since May 2020," wrote Julie Southern, chair of NXP's supervisory board, in an accompanying press release.

"After a successful 30-year career at NXP, we are very saddened that Kurt is retiring. We and the entire NXP community wish him all the best for his retirement."

Succession will be Managed Internally

Kurt Sievers' succession has already been arranged. Effective immediately, Rafael Sotomayor, currently head of the Secure Connected Edge business unit in San Diego, will take on the role of President of NXP. From October 2025, Sotomayor is set to assume the position of CEO from Sievers. This approach is intended to ensure a smooth and orderly transition.

In his role as General Manager, he remains responsible for the Embedded Compute Leadership for edge processing and system solutions for the IIoT market, in addition to solutions in the company's security and connectivity ecosystems. As president, he additionally oversees the business units, sales, production, operations in China, as well as the company's research and development.

For the first quarter of 2025, NXP reported revenue of $2.8 billion. This corresponds to a decline of nearly nine percent compared to the previous year.
