China New Standard for Autonomous Driving—China Regulates Level 3 and 4

China regulates autonomous driving for Levels 3 and 4. From July 2027, manufacturers must strictly prove the safety of their systems. A specific sensor type is not mandated.
China has issued its first binding standard for autonomous driving. The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) in Beijing published a national standard for automated driving at Levels 3 and 4. It will come into force on July 1, 2027.
