The additional computing power is to be used for training AI models and launching artificial intelligence-based features around the world, it said. Through a billion-dollar pact with Chat-GPT developer Open AI, Microsoft has become a pioneer in the use of AI software and is trying to integrate it into its entire product range. Microsoft's current fiscal year runs until the end of June.

Microsoft is already preparing with nuclear energy

AI software is trained with vast amounts of all kinds of data—and this requires enormous computing resources. The already massive data centers for this consume a lot of energy.

As early as autumn, it was announced that a reactor at the decommissioned US nuclear power plant Three Mile Island would be restarted to supply power for Microsoft's data centers. The company agreed to purchase the produced energy for 20 years. It will be the first time that a decommissioned nuclear power plant in the USA will be brought back online.
