Mercedes-AMG is launching the "PureSpeed," a limited series of 250 units of a roofless and windowless speedster. The two-toned two-door, based on the SL Roadster, is powered by a four-liter biturbo V8. This engine delivers 430 kW/585 hp to all four wheels via a nine-speed dual-clutch transmission. The sprint to 100 km/h (approx. 62 mph) is said to take 3.6 seconds, and the top speed is 315 km/h (approx. 196 mph).

Small transparent wind deflectors will guide part of the airflow and turbulence past the occupants. Nevertheless, the Pure Speed comes with two body-colored helmets with an integrated communication system. To protect the occupants, the open design features a bar stretched over the passenger cell.

The component known in motorsport as the halo system serves as a substitute for the missing A-pillars. Since there is no roof, the Pure Speed is delivered with a tonneau cover to protect the interior from rain.

Further special features of the limited series include active aerodynamic elements such as the retractable rear spoiler, a rear axle that steers, a ceramic composite brake system, and an active suspension. It includes air suspension with variable damping and hydraulic roll stabilization.

Mercedes has not yet announced a price for the speedster, which will be available from next year. However, it will be significantly higher than the approximately 196,000 euros (202.232,80 USD) for the SL AMG 63 4Matic.
